Chelsea is sharing information with families who wish to help out and send supplies to those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Hundreds and hundreds of people are lined up, hoping to get food and supplies in the hardest hit areas, such as Staten Island and the Rockaways. They are in desperate need of the following:

-Batteries

-Flashlights

-Baby needs

-Cleaning supplies

Check Drugstore.com or Amazon.com’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Supplies page to send supplies directly to people in Staten Island. The Staten Island Sandy Relief would greatly appreciate the following wish list items:

-Food

-Toiletries

-Flashlights

-LED lights

-C and D batteries

-Baby needs

-Feminine needs

-Senior needs

-Hammers

-Shovels

-Brooms

-Disinfectant

-Paper towels

-Scouring goods

Amazon and other suppliers will not deliver to Far Rockaway at the moment. They are in need of battery operated lanterns and radios. If you wish to donate, NYC Councilman Sanders has set up a nearby location to receive donations and shuttle them to the distribution center:

Office of Councilman James Sanders

23426 Merrick Blvd.

Laurelton, NY 11422

718-527-4356

If there are those in Rockaway who still need water pumped out of their home, one family in Brooklyn is generously offering to help out for free with several industrial pumps. Please, text 347-236-6858 with a name and an address.

Please, share this information with friends, family, and neighbors. Feel free to comment and share new information or updates with Chelsea’s parenting community.
