My friend Peggy called recently to ask for help. Her brother Craig and sister-in-law Barbara are divorcing, and Peg is worried about the children, Sarah and Brian. She thinks that both parents are so angry that they are unable to help the children understand what is happening in order to cope with the coming changes in their lives. Most families experience divorce and have a huge responsibility to help keep the children feeling safe and secure about the future and their relationships with both parents.

Senate Passes Every Child Achieves Act

On July 16, the United States Senate passed its bipartisan Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) reauthorization proposal—Every Child Achieves Act (S. 1177)—by an overwhelming 81 to 17 final vote count. The act addresses key constraints under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and its accompanying regulations that have been plaguing public education for over a decade—a monumental step forward for the American educational system and all students, regardless of their socioeconomic situations.
